beijing-based HHD-FUN have just completed the final addition to the shanhaitian seaside in rizhao, accompanying the pedestrian bridge and clubhouse. the ‘rizhao visitor center’ contains services for the expected influx of tourists including shops, cinemas, restaurants, leisure facilities and public showrooms. a parametrically-designed steel structure creates a prototype of an undulating form growing out of the ground and disappearing back into it, repeated for all 19 volumes in a fluid built structure. each component, although based on the same model, is modified to its specific site location and functional requirement. the project constitutes a low profile with the major spaces located on the floor below ground, accessible through either three open stairs or four paths towards the sea.
