hillside villa by wespi de meuron architects

wespi de meuron architects is a studio based in caviano, switzerland on the country’s southern border. this house — ‘hillside villa’ — was design by the studio in brion, switzerland. the dwelling is nestled on a hillside densely built-up with other properties. as it overlooks the city, lake and mountains, the designers wanted to preserve the natural feel on the exterior. they achieved this with flat stone and cement walls which protect the interior. small openings allow movement from outside to in and vice versa. light also penetrates the walls through the open courtyards. the pool at the front of the house connects to the lake below, and is even directly accessible from the house.
