hotel zen tokyo, a luxury capsule hotel lies amidst the bustling capital city of japan. contrasting its busy, noisy and frenetic surroundings, the hotel attempts to bring tranquility to their guests. located a few steps away from the ningyocho station in tokyo, the hotel’s prime location offers a quick access to both of the city’s airports and to the city’s most exciting destinations.

the concept is a ‘capsule hotel’, a popular typology in japan where each room is a pod where guests can choose from various bed sizes and pod styles. in hotel zen tokyo, each pod is designed according to the traditional japanese design discipline of ‘wabi-sabi’, minimalistic design that appreciates small spaces and natural materials.

blending the authentic japanese aesthetic, with a modern style, the hotel offers a relaxing ‘zen’ environment without sacrificing convenience. the hotel is meant to imitate a traditional japanese tea house, filled with subtle details and natural materials. clean lines and minimal decoration provide a sense of calm in the rooms.

the hotel also includes a basement bar and cafe that serve a variety of japanese sake and fusion cuisine. the basement serves as a gateway to japanese culture, art and music. during the day, the space acts as the cafe library that hosts pop-up exhibitions of arts and crafts. during the night, there is live, traditionally-inspired japanese music to accompany the drink and cocktail menu.
