Casa de los Milagros or House of Miracles by architect Danilo Veras Godoy is a distinctive residence nestled in the cloud forest near Xalapa, Veracruz. The design is characterized by its organic, flowing forms and mosaic glass curves, creating a structure that appears almost alive. The undulating roof, reminiscent of a sea creature in motion, contrasts with the smooth, earth-toned concrete base that grounds the house. The house is conceived as a series of interconnected spaces, organized around a central column. The circular layout of the floors is reflected in the curved walls and the absence of traditional right angles, enhancing the organic feel of the structure. Windows of various shapes and sizes are strategically placed throughout, allowing natural light to penetrate the interior in a way that complements the home’s natural, earthy palette of whites, browns, and terracotta.

The facade is a blend of found and gifted materials, integrated into the design through a collaborative process between the architect and the owner, Rosalinda Ulloa. Elements such as circular windows above the stairs and a stained-glass feature in the living room were incorporated into the building, not merely as functional components but as focal points around which spaces were created. The bedrooms, raised on platforms with alternating tread stairs, emphasize the house’s integration of movement and space.

Casa de los Milagros is more than a dwelling; it is an exploration of how architecture can reflect and inspire the imagination of its inhabitants. The home, built in stages from 1995 to 2002, represents a dialogue between the architect and the family, resulting in a space that is as much a reflection of personal dreams as it is of architectural innovation. Veras Godoy’s approach to design, which emphasizes organic forms and a deep connection to the environment, has left a lasting impact on the architectural landscape of Xalapa and beyond.
