perched on the side of a steep plot of land, the ‘house S’ by austrian studio HPSA offers expansive views over the mountainside. organized around a u-shaped layout, the floor plan responds to the surrounding site context and constraints from neighboring properties. the brief from the clients called for a cost efficient house with a maximum of 130m² of inhabitable space, without the need for a basement. this resulted in the structure being placed on pillars, with the living rooms and bedrooms orientated towards a terrace where one can experience the green, rolling landscape beyond. the building floats over the edge of the hill, projecting outwards to allow the natural terrain to remain untouched – the framed volume also provides a weather protected area for one to enjoy the outdoor environment.
