in line with their mastery of interior/exterior space, korean practice IROJE KHM architects completes kyeong dok jai, a single family residence in gyeonggi-do, korea. the striking louvered facade informs a semi-private threshold understood as the outer wall of the home. the structure itself takes on a fluid form inverting the traditional house as a centralized volume and instead utilizing outdoor functions as the central core to the home. a series of exposed courtyards lead from one area of the home to another, occupying the various nooks created by the negative space of the structure.

each patio enjoys varying degrees of exposure and privacy so that at any given time of day there is a space outside ideally suited to the elements. large windows follow the angled masses of the design nurturing open spaces with direct views to the exterior gardens. stairs almost act as bridges projecting through the tall spaces connecting dispersed floor plates and rooms, seemingly slicing through the flow of movement intended by the angled walls.
