combining avant-garde and raw-vegan techniques with traditional spanish cuisine, the tapas bar and restaurant barton commissioned by locally renowned interior designer isabel lópez vilalta and architect magüi gonzález of nred arquitectos to transform their restaurant.

located at a bustling district in barcelona, the site was previously a delicatessen selling italian pasta, structurally, the designers divided the space into three sections: the dining area, the bar and the open pantry. the interior design encompasses a decorative contemporary-meets-retro approach reflected in the timber paneled walls, the polished concrete floor, mismatched cushions and the wire-frame lighting. to allow a smooth and clear communication between the waiting staff and chefs, the kitchen is partially open and connected to the dining area by a screen of open shelving. using barton’s vibrant menu as a source of influence, the restaurant evokes a warm and eclectic ambiance which consequently goes hand-in-hand with the contemporary spanish dishes served.

hanging from the barton restaurant’s high celings is the ‘wireflow’ designed by arik levy for spanish company VIBIA. the design explores geometries in two and three dimensions through a series of pendant lighting fixtures which are composed of simple elements, whereby from certain angles they appear flat, like a line drawing suspended in the air.
