iwan baan on being an architectural photographer
iwan baan has become an important figure in the world of architectural photography. having previously worked in publishing and documentary photography in new york and europe, the dutchman made his transition in 2005, when he made a proposal to rem koolhaas / OMA  to chronicle the construction of the firm’s ‘CCTV building’ in china. wanting to make the most of his trip to beijing, he also approached herzog & de meuron about recording their ‘national olympic stadium’. since then, he has been traveling the globe, capturing the built forms of the world’s most well-known architects. in this interview conducted by deutsche welle, baan opens up about his actual knowledge of architecture, and the essence of what he aims to capture through the images he takes of the structures he encounters.
