a slatted teak facade wraps around the glazed volume of MDT house by brazilian firm jacobsen arquitetura. embedded into a rolling emerald-colored hill in sao paulo, the house’s central plan allows for the creation of three open patios that organize a relaxed, domestic program. the richly grained, warm-hued wood creates a network of verandas that delineate intimate spaces, social lounges and direct access to a variety of gardens. the fabric of thin panels fractures light while creating a gradient of airiness with a variety of ceiling heights; all the while functioning as a envelope of shutters that provide optimal flexibility with regard to ventilation and privacy. the pared down material palette lends the home an air of suspension from the landscape and allows the horizontal volume to finds a visually lightweight resonance in the bucolic landscape.
