jaime juárez builds residence in mexico with stacked volumes + white cladding

jaime juárez arquitectura has designed a private residence located within morelia city, in mexico. the project emerges from the trapezoidal shape of the plot where it’s situated, which defined the construction into three clearly settled volumes adapted to the site’s conditions.

one of the main features of the project by jaime juárez arquitectura is the integration of vegetation in both the exterior and interior design. outside, the trees wrap the building, generating different shadows and color reflections on the façade at different times of the year, as if it were a blank canvas. inside, the green of the dense vegetation contrasts with the black stone floors and the solidity of the walls, achieving a sensory balance. the main access to the residence is made through a double height lobby, with various perceptions and visual frames created by light shafts, a staircase and natural elements such as the trees and a water mirror. the walls that shape this area, divide the spaces into private and public areas.

the ground floor is organized in two blocks, each with a different purpose. the left side is a solid cube that houses the studio and the master bedroom, which is separated from the social area by an interior patio, and promotes a serene and contemplative environment with views towards the garden. the right side -the social area- is a rectangle that is closed to the west by a large enclosure and opened to the interior through a floor-to-ceiling windows, creating a sober transparency towards the central garden. the transition to the private spaces allows the residents to walk within the house and meet different angles with interesting visual finishes, as well as sensations transmitted by a pure white architecture, which showcases different shades as time goes by.
