jarmund/vigsnaes arkitekter: farm house

located in toten, norway this farm house by jarmund/vigsnaes arkitekter echoes the materials and design of an old barn. the private home covers only 165m2 but feels light and spacious thanks to a continuous band of windows that wrap around the home. this window allows light to enter and provides panoramic views of the norwegian landscape. the outside of the home is clad in old wood and was designed to reference the old barn, which is to be torn down on the site. inside most of the home is left very bare with expose beams and plywood paneling on the walls.

  • confusing and nonsensical

    bret says:
  • No, the rationale makes sense, but it’s not necessarily good. The first and second images do make it look like an old run down barn. From that perspective it’s successful, although it falls short where there may be no logic to the exterior skin/interior spaces. Why one would want to live in such a house is beyond me. Plan/section would help.

    w says:
  • w: someone would want to live in that house so they that dont have to live in an old run down barn! I personally dont like it either, but much respect for jarmund and vigsnaes.
