located 1,200 meters above sea level in the okstindan mountain range, the ‘rabot tourist cabin’ is one of many lodging facilities built across norway. designed by jarmund/vigsnaes arkitekter, the highly durable structure is named after the french geographer charles rabot who explored the region in great detail.

set amid the rugged terrain, the site is inaccessible via road and is only reachable on foot or by ski. the main cabin, which is supplemented by a secondary rescue hut, is shaped by the behavior of snow and heavy winds with no protruding elements. two large chimneys respond naturally to the undulating terrain, forming two man-made peaks above the simple timber volume below.

internally, the cabin contains around 30 beds divided across seven bedrooms, while two entrance foyers provide storage and washroom amenities. above the kitchen, a mezzanine level runs throughout the center of the design, with two common rooms boasting double-height ceilings and expansive views across the picturesque environment.

locally sourced timber boards clad the building, with the same panels used within internal common areas, lending the scheme a sense of continuity. the bedrooms feature bright white varnished walls, allowing visitors to introduce color through their personal choice of clothing and equipment.
