julien de smedt architects‘ design of the new ‘avaza aqua park’ is aiming to help bring and attract tourism into turkmenistan. located on the coast in awaza, edging the caspian sea, the 90,000 sqm circular scheme will accommodate an array of facilities including a water park, shopping center, a hotel resort and yacht club. characterized by the fluid and lifted edges, the landscaped greenery and the pools all respond to a gradually growing gradient.

the unique form has been influenced by three of the country’s natural formations

the form of the complex has been shaped by a combination of the country’s three natural, geographical formations: the darvaza flaming crater (door to hell), the karakum desert, and the kowata underground lake. based within an artificial bay, the flaming crater has influenced the circular nature of the building, the desert dunes for the structure’s lifted edges and the underground lake has resulted in the scheme being raised to form the ground-floor platform.

it will host a diverse array of luxury facilities

the resort is located on the eastern side of the caspian sea
