new-york based shoe store FEIT has opened up at a new location in the west village. the distinctive interiors-cum-installation were designed by jordana maisie, who has paired the use of natural and raw materials with digital technology.

from the exterior, the distinctive floor-to-ceiling layering of birch-plywood is clearly visible; this unique identity demonstrates a clean aesthetic of geometric shapes formed by volume and void. the innovative technique demonstrated uses volumetric molds to carve out the display spaces within the slatted timber mass.

utilizing CNC technology, the concept of the retail store explores the ‘synergy and tension’ between traditional handcrafting and using machines. each geometric slab was CNC cut, sanded by hand and assembled into modules offsite which enabled a complex build sequence to unroll on site.

lighting and design goes hand-in-hand to instill a sense of depth within the store and reflective surfaces were integrated to open up and amplify the transparency of the overall installation. the LED lighting installed into the timber system can be adjusted to change color in accordance with summer, fall, winter, and spring; this detail adds an element of comfort to contrast the discord of the city outside.
