joshua florquin architecture transforms paris hair salon into pine forest

joshua florquin architecture designed les dada east, a hair and styling salon located near bastille in the heart of paris. italian founder edoardo seghi commissioned the designers to create the interiors and concept, in line with the italian eco-inspired brands the salon uses. more than a hair salon, the space is open to host cultural events such as art openings and exhibitions.

the designers intended the salon to become a relaxing space that contrasts the city’s chaotic frenzy. it is meant to feel like a calming, natural oasis amidst the busy area. including nature, such as edera plants, ferns and orchidaceae, in the space itself makes the salon a revitalizing forest that encourages wellbeing for the clients.

the salon features a wooden wall installation that branches out to the ceiling, providing a light canopy over the visitors. the installation is made out of pine wood and is composed of 238 sculpted lamellae that remind the visitors of trees in a forest. the wall element includes small shelves that display products or plants, adding to the natural atmosphere. lighting is integrated between the ceiling branches and creates a soothing illumination, imitating light piercing through leaves.

the light wood is complemented by the off-white mosaic tiles that clad the rest of the interior’s surfaces. these walls contain storage space and divide the floor plan into separate areas. the materials make the color palette soft and refreshing, creating a comfortable environment for the users. the neutrality of the space also allows for multiple events to be hosted inside, making the salon become a cultural center for the neighbohood.
