jumpway proposes a fun way to bounce through the city after lockdown

providing some welcome light relief, architect and designer volodymyr dereznichenko presents his tongue-in-cheek proposal for moving through the city post coronavirus lockdown. without the need for cars, bicycles or scooters, ‘jumpway’ imagines a fun addition to existing urban fabrics by a system of bouncy surfaces.

‘nowadays locked in our houses we wait for the day when we can run out to the outside jumping for joy, literally. this would be quite a time to reassess our relationship with the urban environment to make it more enjoyable.’ – volodymyr dereznichenko

with two layers, both physical and virtual, it may be possible to create a convenient urban environment

whether going out at the weekend or making the monday morning commute to work, jumpways allow citizens to bounce from A to B on a series of trampolines embedded into the sidewalk. not only this, the trampolines are also connected to a piezoelectric system that will produce electricity from the movement.

‘jumpways as a part of the so-called ‘jolly urban infrastructure’ will definitely make the urban space more appealing. with either physical or virtual tools we may be able to make cities truly functional without losing the elements of fun, creativity, and leisure. take care, and have a nice april fools’ day!’  volodymyr dereznichenko
