located in nakhon si thammarat — one of the most ancient cities in thailand — the LaeKhon NonBai hotel has been designed by junsekino architect and design. with the aim of revitalizing a preexisting building, the intention of the architect was to recreate the visual perception as well as fulfilling the missing elements without changing the structural design. because of this, the aesthetic of the building has been developed without any ornamentation, and has been done only by organizing the local elements and re-coding the remaining finishings.

when designing the LaeKhon NonBai hotel, junsekino wanted to reduce the sense of solidity and repetition of the front elevation which is the only part exposed to the eyes. sited on a rectangular plot of land surrounded by shophouses and apartments, the 5-storey building now features a transparent façade that helps distract the attention from the existing structure. the architect combined basic construction materials like round bar steel curtains, brick and wood into the new characteristic face. its simplicity and straight-forward appearance results in a pixelated layer that adds depth and silhouette to the building.

the semi-transparent façade not only plays an aesthetic part but also affects the living quality within the interior space as the building is located in a tropical weather area. through its pattern, ventilation and natural light can penetrate easily through the space within. consequently, the variation of shadow and light effect throughout the day creates a sense of vibrancy in the interior.

the LaeKhon NonBai hotel by junsekino consists of 20 accommodation units and features a lobby that includes all the materials used throughout the hotel construction — wood, brick, and glass blocks. as for the landscape design, the architect delicately designed it to be part of the hotel experience by using the verticality of the round bar steels and reinterpreting them into the form of a tree.
