K2LD architects completes the 'winged house' in singapore
‘the winged house’ by singaporean firm K2LD architects is split into two adjacent forms to navigate its triangulated plot. the pair of trapeziums open towards the back of the site, welcoming the lush vegetation and tropical climate of singapore into the living spaces. a garden is framed by the flanking roof forms, creating an area for friendly gatherings. taking cues from traditional malay architecture, the folding canopies bring fresh air though the interior. their double pitched form are a contemporary twist, and when combined with deep overhanging eaves offer shade and shelter from seasonal downpours.

the split between the building masses exposes the double height dining room, a corridor on the upper level and patio to daylight. concealed lights further accentuate the soaring rooflines when illuminated. burmese teak surfaces the underside of the canopy while a darker chengai wood is used for the sun shading screens along the facades. the vertical spindles of the louvers pick up the appearance of the tree trunks found in the nearby greenery.
