american rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, composer, entrepreneur and fashion designer kanye west took to twitter this weekend to announce not only that he wants to run for president, but also to say his YEEZY HOME project might be back underway.

after the official announcement in may 2018, kanye west began construction of his star wars-inspired community of affordable housing called YZY SHLTRS by YEEZY HOME in july 2019. then came august and the project was threatened with demolition as it violated building codes and several neighbors supposedly complained to the LA county department of public works. almost a year later, west shared a picture on twitter with some structures building up. the image, which he captioned ‘YZY SHLTRS in process #2020vision, highlights the fact that the project probably got the permissions and construction was resumed. by the way, he used the same hashtag when he announced his presidential candidacy.

on an interview with forbes, west said that the design of the YEEZY HOME shelters was ‘inspired by luke skywalker’s childhood home, (and that he) has been working with a team to design prefabricated structures that sport the same austere aesthetic, with the goal of deploying them as low-income housing units.’

until recently, yeezy had been known as west’s fashion brand starting out in 2009 with the nike air yeezy 1 before launching as a fashion label in 2015 with its first collection. since then, he has expressed desired to move into product designing and architecture when he revealed he wanted to expand the company, also tweeting: ‘yeezy is no longer a fashion company we should be referred to as apparel or clothing or simply YEEZY.’
