the kardamov studio in berlin is conceived within an empty basement by so + so studio

the challenge has become one of manipulation during so + so studio’s design for furniture label workshop kardamov studio located in berlin. is it possible to create comfortability in an otherwise uncomfortable space? — and with such a limited palette, is it feasible then to organize the process and aid in the growth of the designer, as he takes the next step in his career? during this project the design team has been presented with a number of initial questions. one, quite simple, how can they create an environment in which their client can sit, relaxed and design his next product? and two: how can they bring natural light, or the illusion of such light, into a basement space with no windows?

the project before so + so studio’s design intervention

apostol kardamov, head of kardamov studio, has been working in a big, empty basement, with plenty of space, but no natural light and only two small, centrally located heaters. as the furniture label began to grow and create a name for itself in berlin, they were ready to take the next step in growing their business and invest in a comfortable space to design, photograph, build and invite clients. german based so + so studio‘s goal is to create a space that catered to the iterative design-build process, creating fluidity, but separation between each phase.
