last week, the japanese architect kisho kurokawa died of heart failure at the age of 73. he is best known designs
include the nakajin capsule tower, the kuala lumpur international airport and the recently completed
tokyo national art centre.

kurokawa was a leader in the metabolism architecture movement of the 1960’s, that aimed to merge elements of
humanism with adaptable and flexible structures. the capsule tower is one of the prime examples of this movement.
