located within a building that dates back to 1965, the headquarters of the ljubljana stock exchange has been renovated by slovenian architects kosi in partnerji, in collaboration with arhitektura 2211. the design concept behind the refurbished interior focuses on accentuating the existing concrete structure of the premises with the introduction of a new colonnade, which runs through the entire length of the space and helps delineate offices.

in parallel to the existing structure, a series of columns and blue partitions has been added by the architect. this new intervention runs through the center of the headquarters, dividing the floor plan into equally-sized compartments.

within what could be a generic office building, the application of the colonnade intends to create an abstract and monumental aesthetic, resembling the symmetry and proportions of classical architecture. the combination of a balanced spatial composition, uniformity of materials and rhythmic repetition of elements also means that each space offers equal working conditions.

the program is organized as a hybrid of an open-plan and a traditional office layout. spaces are separated from the colonnade by translucent glass walls. the hybrid layout provides unity and connection between people, while also providing sufficient privacy and acoustic isolation for individual work stations.

as people move through the colonnade, their perspective of the space changes as each step opens up a new office to the left and to the right. the illumination of the space also changes from day to night as strip lighting lines the colonnade, further emphasizing the spatial experience and overall symmetry of the architecture.
