architecture practice, kune office, has conceived their unique ‘plazabike‘ design, in an attempt to bring together vital pieces of the city of madrid. the concept behind the project aims to represent the identity of new urban development within the city by utilizing key architectural elements – street corners. the architects aim to create an ‘urban trigger,’ to provoke thought about how madrid has developed, by bringing together these separate parts in one place.

the bike itself is formed by kune as a simple three-wheeled design, incorporating a rack space at the back, onto which the ‘street corners’ are fixed. this volume, measuring 1.3m x 1.2m x 1.45m, opens up to provide a storage area. this aspect means the ‘plazabike’ becomes a type of ‘mobile’ architecture. large items can be stored in the bike, including foldable table and chairs, allowing it to be used for various functions, including an urban picnic area.

the combination of street corners also showcases a variation of materiality found across the city. from brick, to concrete, to metal, the ‘plazabike’ brings together different materials and disparate parts to create a whole and unite distanced neighborhoods in one place.
