architecture studio LAD (laboratorio di architettura) has completed the renovation of a private apartment facing the trevi fountain, in central romethe design preserves raw aspects of the original structure, and combines them with new elements in order to form a bright, minimalist interior for the occupants.

before the intervention by LAD, the flat was neglected and uninhabited. the renovation dealt with a radical spatial redistribution, taking full advantage of the double-height rooms in the dwelling. the main concept was to mix two types of surface treatments: half of the wall’s height is treated with a smooth white plaster or with boiserie, while the upper part has been left untreated, with white painted bricks, as if they were two boxes that fit inside each other.

the apartment features an open terrace, providing unobstructed views of the most picturesque views of rome, while allowing natural sungliht to permeate the interior. this large opening, along with the simple color palette and the warm wooden details of the interior, form an ideal bright backdrop to highlight the residents’ everyday life.
