Contemporary Art Museum Shaped by Lagoa de Pataias’ lakeshore

Designed by Alexander Velgan, the LP Museum is a proposal for a contemporary art museum located on the shores of Lagoa de Pataias, in Portugal. The project is conceived as a sculptural architectural intervention that follows the natural geometry of the lakeshore, establishing a close relationship between the building and its surrounding landscape. Its curvilinear form responds to the organic contours of the site, integrating architecture with the environment while shaping a continuous spatial experience.

Interior follows a Spatial Journey Framed by Light and Landscape

Inside, the gallery spaces are defined by a restrained material palette that places emphasis on the artworks, natural light, and framed views of the lake. Conceived by designer Alexander Velgan, the circulation is organized as a continuous sequence of spaces, guiding visitors through alternating enclosed galleries and open-air areas. This progression creates changing perspectives of both the exhibitions and the surrounding landscape, reinforcing the relationship between art, architecture, and nature. The project’s clear structural expression and site-responsive form transform the museum into a setting where the experience of viewing extends beyond the gallery spaces to include the landscape itself.
