the lanes residences, a luxury apartment development in queensland, australia, has received formal planning approval from local authorities. located in mermaid waters, a suburb on the gold coast, the development comprises four sculptural buildings designed by contreras earl architecture. early work on site has already commenced, with two tower cranes installed and more than 300 jobs expected to be created as the development gets underway.

the lanes residences is sunland group’s first apartment development within a 42-hectare master planned community at mermaid lakes, where sunland is delivering a community and leisure-lifestyle retail village over the course of the next decade. the lanes residences will deliver four boutique lakefront apartment buildings at the heart of the future retail village. each mid-rise residential structure comprises between 70 and 80 apartments, each with a selection of one-, two-, and three-bedroom luxury apartments and penthouses.

the project has been designed by contreras earl architecture, a sydney-based firm led by rafael contreras morales and monica earl. in london, contreras worked under zaha hadid and patrik schumacher at zaha hadid architects, while earl worked for foster + partners, carmody groarke, and farshid moussavi. resident amenities at the lanes residences include a pool, outdoor terrace and barbecue areas, a lounge, a sauna, and a gym. the development will be launched to the market in early 2020.
