LC ARQUITECTURA sparks MODERNITY in RUINS IN MEXICO

LC Arquitectura transforms a home in ruins into a modern office space infused with nature and light in Veracruz, Mexico. Titled CR Office, the ecological project is one of restoration and rehabilitation, seeking to preserve the structure’s remaining shell, its evocative essence, and its encompassing natural landscape while injecting a refreshing contemporary atmosphere. A new modern concrete volume is placed beside the original construction, both of which are united by a series of delicate, transparent glass bridges that aid the symbiotic integration of the old and new. Throughout the space, the architects introduce opportunities for users to reconnect with nature, establishing a strong connection between the interior and exterior through expansive glass windows and walkways, inner gardens, and sculptural furniture pieces made of tree roots and river stones.

CR OFFICE INtegrate nature to foster creativity

Beginning the project, LC Arquitectura was met with an old house with perimeter walkways and corrals crumbling amid a serene natural landscape. Inspired by its weathered materials which evoke a sense of nostalgia, the architects preserve and embrace as much of the original structure as possible while injecting a refreshed contemporary atmosphere to inspire creativity and productivity.

Within, the CR Office comprises diverse environments for work and contemplation, with a modern interior bearing consistent remnants of a historical standing that maintains a strong connection with nature. The architects weave circulation spaces with interior gardens, wrap the office in expansive floor-to-ceiling pivot windows, integrate transparent walkways that hover above foliage and place a water mirror in the heart of the space which exudes calming sounds throughout the day. Moreover, bespoke artistic interventions made of natural elements such as carved marble blocks, tree roots, and large river stones have been composed as furniture and sculptural pieces.
