‘jean jaurès subway station’ was opened in 1993. the flow generated by the daily migrations of users is cyclical and periodically massive. since the opening of the second line (B) of tolouse, including the configuration of the common sharing room with two tracks, the transportation hub has seen its attendance increase dramatically. at peak times, chronic congestion of the platforms, and delays induced by the crossing paths in the interconnecting area, have asked for the implementation of improvement solutions. this task was handed to the designers of LCR architectes.

the operation and image of the subway station was no longer at the height of its strategic position. the proposed project had to free the volumes of line A, to reorganize clearances and access, to create a peaceful atmosphere, to consider the importance of this center and provide users with an efficient amount of functionality.

thus, the studio defined following two main architectural objectives. the first was to present a new visual appearance which devotes its specific role in the network and demonstrate its improvements: more softness, controlled light, few ruptures and reflections, and a reduced color gamut. these features constitute a serene background on which some symbolically significant elements appear. The central platform is cleared, the ticket hall is lengthened, the volume is lightened, the flows are separated, the routes are lighter and more comfortable, the station gains visibility and readability.

the second goal was to strengthen the identity of the place assuming its name heritage. as such, the end of the renovation coincides almost exactly the hundredth anniversary of the death of jean-jaures. beyond divisions, this character is an emblematic figure of conviction and political courage. a place bearing his name may have to discreetly tribute to what he represents in the french history.
