ryusuke nanki introduces ‘GINZA 456 created by KDDI’, an innovative flagship store, in tokyo.  the street-facing façade, open atrium, ceilings, and floors were covered by LEDs creating a dynamic environment blending digital image and physical experience. the design uses the length, merging the façade and the interior to create the impression of a large flowing spatial layout. the building’s narrow footprint posed a design challenge for ryusuke nanki; how to maximize the façade’s limited surface area achieving a greater presence and impact than the property’s luxury-brand neighbors. although the shop lacks in frontal surface area, the long and narrow building has depth.

blending image, space, and experience, ‘GINZA 456 created by KDDI’ signals the arrival of a creative approach to future façade design and branding. the shop showcases the telecommunication advances in 5g and cutting-edge technology, while the synced walls become a contoured projection surface, incorporated into the design as an integral element on par with the materiality, spatiality, and displayed content itself.

the display functions as a lens into KDDI’s brand and seasonal content, presenting visitors and passers-by with the carrier’s messaging and experience. nestled amongst many storefronts that dot the ginza promenade, the shop consists of a complete ‘lifestyle’ space and a full-service sales floor.LED technology illuminates innovative flagship store by ryusuke nanki, in tokyo
