the museum of moving image in astoria, new york is currently undergoing expansion, designed by leeser architecture.

the museum’s facade is treated as a gallery exhibition space. built into the main entry is a grid of miniature monitors that can be programmed by the museum’s curators or independent artists, resulting in a changing exhibition that uses relatively simple technology to great effect; museum- goers literally walk through a moving image upon entering the museum. in addition a courtyard behind the museum facilitates the projection of artworks and films and will serve as a valuable public space for this neighborhood.
