leopold banchini references office culture and seventies utopia in supersurface at the centre pompidou

leopold banchini installs a permanent educational space in one of the centre pompidou exhibition rooms, designed to host dialogues between art and industries, as well as workshops and lectures. referencing office culture, seventies utopian projects, and some of banchini’s previous works done in collaboration with daniel zamarbide as bureau A , 3-8 offers a new supersurface, where all pedagogical tools are hidden under it. 

for 3-8’s gridded surface, leopold banchini has combined influences from the technical raised floors and grey materials used in offices around the world, with the speculative projects of the seventies, such as the continuous monument by radical italian group superstudio. all the square-shaped tiles of the floor open up to enable different activities and reveal various objects such as speakers, lights, seating, and even an entire structure reminiscent of banchini’s previous work, surface. questioning our alienating working environment, the project suggests new subversive usages and encourages emancipation from preconceived relations with the professional realm.
