scandinavian practice link arkitektur has refurbished the landscape design of ‘stranden’, the first of a multi-stage redevelopment of the precinct known as ‘aker brygge’ in oslo, norway. the waterfront promenade is one of the city’s most vibrant urban areas, and the renewal increases visual and physical contact with the fjord, while also encouraging social interaction and diversity. one of the main challenges was to reconfigure and simplify the site’s cross-section; re-organizing and consolidating the path in order to create a wider, more generous public space. link landskap, in collaboration with norwegian company vestre and designers lars tornøe and atle tveit, developed a specific concept for the street furniture to help foster flexibility of spontaneous and unplanned activities.
