luca nichetto envisions zaozuo’s showroom in beijing like a sheet of graph paper

offering furniture and design enthusiasts in beijing a place to purchase interior pieces for their home, nichetto studio has recently completed the 300 square meter retail showroom for zaozuo in beijing’s indigo shopping center.

working with local architecture firm DAMU, luca nichetto conceived zaozuo‘s showroom interior with influences taken from china’s burgeoning contemporary design scene. the idea is based upon a blank sheet of graph paper or blank notebook to symbolize endless possibility and creativity. with this concept, a series of bespoke modules and a continuous lattice display system has been created. this adaptable landscape gives the showroom versatility. divided into three sections: accessories, furniture and lighting, objects such as individual chairs can be invisibly hung from 4 meters above ground to form rows and columns of different colors and forms.

the ‘no display’ aesthetic shifts the focus to the products and seamlessly displays different kinds of furniture pieces altogether. nichetto’s solution to making such a diverse collection of vibrant products maintain a homogeneous look-without being visually chaotic -was to create colored zones- colds are placed at lower levels, warms in the middle, neutrals at the highest point. by adhering to these seemingly-simple display guidelines, the showroom retains a pleasing and consistent cohesion.
