‘lumen’ is the name of a new multi-faith centre for worship by theis and khan architects. the new building was created within an existing 1960’s united reformed church. theis and khan architects added a cafО, contemplation space and an extension for housing community spaces. the contemplation space, known as the shaft of light’ is a cone like room which appears like a beam of light shining from the ceiling. in the cafО, the architects installed a massive 8m high window with a metal pattern overlaid on it. the back of  lumen also had a garden installed which acts like a contemporary interpretation of a cloister. the new addition also features a font, drinking fountains and garden fountain designed by artist alison wilding.
