located in a natural preservation area of nova lima, brazil, marcos franchini and nattalia bom conselho have created a residence for a young couple who requested the use of simple materials in an easily readable space. the designers have built ‘casa galpao’ as an uncomplicated environment so that the family’s identity can be projected by the objects and furniture placed in the interior, along with the routine formed in the new house.

upon entering the site on the sloping terrain, it is possible to observe the whole two floor house by marcos franchini and nattalia bom conselho.  the steel structure, the exposed concrete blocks (with sealing inside) and the large glass panels are all visible. the thermo-acoustic roof, supported by steel trusses, reinforces the use of industrialized prefabricated materials, as well as hydraulic, lighting and energy systems, in addition to the use of cement on all floors and countertops in waterproofed concrete.

on the first floor, a large terrace, with an apparent concrete pool tank, articulates the external space with the building’s social area, which includes the kitchen, dining and living room, toilet and office. on this floor, there is also an accessible guest suite and a utility room at the rear of the building. a metal walkway on the upper floor divides the double height of the room and connects the two suites, which are placed on opposite ends of the house. at the north façade, one of the suites has a covered porch, providing a panoramic view of the mountainous landscape and the lush vegetation.
