marshall blecher & jan henrik jansen arkitekter complete three-legged villa in denmark

marshall blecher and jan henrik jansen arkitekter have collaborated in the design of villa korup, a residential property for a young family of six. located on the danish island of fyn, the house replaces a property that was destroyed by a fire with a new ‘three-legged’ striking structure. the plan was developed in order to highlight the different aspects of the landscape while creating three characteristic courtyard spaces.

villa korup by marshall blecher and jan henrik jansen arkitekter has been designed to guarantee both private and communal spaces for the large family. the shared spaces are placed closer to the joint of the three legs while the private ones are secluded at the ends of the wings. the house has been constructed entirely from cross-laminated timber and clad with panels of raw weathering steel that react to the site’s conditions, changing over time. the oily grey, metallic finish will gradually turn into a striking orange, fading into a mottled brown and eventually settling into a deep earthy umber. the façade, completely fixtureless, is the result of a steel cladding system developed specially for this house.

with this residence, the architects have constructed one of the first private dwellings in denmark made out of cross-laminated timber. the material has been used throughout the house and treated in a traditional danish manner with soap and lye, protecting the timber and giving it a soft, resilient finish. floor-to-ceiling windows ensure the interiors are naturally-lit, while the warm tones of the wood give it a comfortable feeling. views to all sides of the landscape result in a residence that blurs the line between inside and out, providing the family with high-quality living.
