the series by mogyorósy includes drone photography highlighting the geometry of cerdà’s eixample district, which is arranged in a neat grid with octagonal intersections. the octagonal blocks, which date back to the 19th century, have become synonymous with barcelona and are characterized by the grid pattern and long diagonal streets. using aerial photography, ‘barcelona from above’ is able to perfectly capture this architecture, showing to viewers the smaller elements which make up the whole of the city.

the collection also focuses on the walden 7 apartment building located just outside of barcelona in sant just desvern. designed by masterful spanish architect ricardo bofill, the curving towers are a vertical labyrinth of interlocking courtyards. in the aerial photos, the architecture appears as nesting dolls, with each piece contributing to the overall aesthetic. in addition to these examples of iconic spanish architecture, mogyorósy also captures the places where the city meets the mediterranean sea, giving a true understanding of the coastal context. overall, the series offers a unique perspective of the city, taking viewers on a journey through the architecture and coastline of the catalonian capital.
