situated within the garden of a private residence in são paulo, brazil, ‘pavilion’ is a project composed of three independent structures completed by metro arquitetos associados. the primary construction is a bespoke building, configured specifically for the exhibition and storage of an important art collection. this gallery, which houses contemporary brazilian works, is an elegant and simple 28 meter volume stretched between two concrete walls, and enclosed beneath a steel canopy.

natural light enters through a circular skylight carefully positioned within the roof plane, while a narrow gap formed at the junction of the walls and the ceiling further illuminates the exhibition space. stairs lead to a more secluded elevated area at the rear of the design, containing further artwork.

a timber pergola neighbors the pool, providing a sheltered area of recreation and relaxation. a tree rises through the structure, puncturing the canopy which is supported by three steel columns. a separate concrete annex provides guest accommodation across two storeys.
