step inside the wyndham club house by MIA design studio

On the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc, the Wyndham Club House emerges as a new hospitality addition by MIA Design Studio. Combining modern and traditional qualities, the structure features a bold, bare brick exterior sporting various patterns that create captivating light and shadow plays throughout the day. The resulting effect evokes a lantern-like quality that ‘exudes the beauty of craftsmanship in the meticulousness and precision of the local mason,’ writes the studio.

exuding a meditative, breathable atmosphere

Beyond its aesthetic value, the brick cladding helps block out / soften heavy sunlight during warm weather while providing natural ventilation for the building, a prerequisite for tropical climates that drape over islands like Phu Quoc. Upon entering the Wyndham Club House by MIA Design Studio (see more here), visitors are met with highly sensorial spaces that mesh lighting, vegetation, and water features into one meditative setting. A striking example is the large skylight hovering above a zen-like pond; adorned with lush, hanging plants, such a display invites relaxation, visual softness, and breathability — a nod to the island’s overall ambiance. Further reinforcing the local character is the use of materials like bamboo, wood, and grindstone.
