in this project, interior architect michael malapert proposes a new vision of the parisian cafe, a symbol of its city. malapert chose to give the cafe the feeling of a holiday house inside and out, giving an unexpected twist to the design. ‘la maison bleue‘ mixes the norms of a restaurant, a bar and a house, and achieves a genuine look that offers a new experience to both locals and tourists.

the exterior of the restaurant resembles a holiday house due to the color choice, a shade of blue that is hardly found in the city. in contrast to this unfamiliar feeling, the rattan bistro chairs in light blue and white bring you back to paris. as you enter ‘la maison bleue’ the first thing you’ll notice is a bookcase accompanied by childhood pictures of the owners, a detail that gives a commonplace sensation. while some tables have typical restaurant chairs, others are paired with rocking chairs and armchairs.

the neon signs, the bar, and the open kitchen are more strongly associated with a traditional restaurant, as well as the raw material structure that is sometimes left visible. inside this place you forget where you are, if inside a house or a cafe, in a city or a vacation spot; and this is the allure of  ‘la maison bleue’ — a hybrid presented as a coherent package that gives a strong sense of identity.
