heineken, as part of their ‘open your city’ campaign, wanted to create a pop-up store for the contestants of the central european fashion days at budapest design week 2014 in hungary: a space for slovakian, czech, polish, and hungarian designers and their items and accessories. in order to do so, they acquired help from budapest-based artist miklos kiss. the project’s aim is to help you discover new, less-frequented places in your metropolis, or wherever you are at the moment.

the 38-square meter installation is suspended from the ceiling of a building that is currently under reconstruction. within the space, kiss decided to use unusual materials. the defining hue of green consists of thin strips with ingredients commonly used for insulation. meanwhile, the rest of the hovering structure is composed of a white textile that corresponds to the heineken brand. the entire appearance of the store is brought together by a net pattern that gives each component a transparent quality.

the interior setup resembles of the basic architecture of antique and christian churches with an inner and an outer frame. miklos further explains this metaphor: ‘walking towards the cashiers is a metaphor for walking to the sanctuary. in a way this installation became the church of the fashion week. the purpose of this place is not only to shop, but to spend time here, and that time should be a relaxing experience.’
