continuing his collection of sculptural works of architecture, milad eshtiyaghi presents the concrete ‘arc house.’ designed for a site in freiburg, germany, the dwelling is organized as a four-square grid of discreet, vaulted volumes. each volume is rotated ninety degrees and comprises a roof which slopes outward. while the project is designed for an iranian client, the layout celebrates the historic significance of the four-square grid in iranian architecture — the vernacular architecture of iran has commonly seen the symmetrical organization of spaces around a central point, identifying the cross of directions.

the team at milad eshtiyaghi‘s studio comments on the organization of the arc house:we used the design pattern in four sections so that we could see all the main directions of the site except the western side — because of the western light — and we used the western side with fakhrmddin brick to move forward to take the western light and just bring this light into the space.’

designing the arc house, milad eshiyaghi developed every aspect of the design, including the interiors. the architect comments: ‘in this project, we suggested to the client that we design the interior furniture according to the original design pattern, and the employer accepted this offer. therefore, we designed the main furniture of this project such as chairs, beds, sofas, chandeliers, TV table, bathtub and vase according to the original design pattern so that all the elements in the project are in harmony with each other.
