referencing the underground and industrial atmosphere of 1990s-style nightlife, AMO — the research branch of OMA — has constructed the one-night-only miu miu club within the official CESE government offices in paris. located in the 1937 palais d’iena, the pop-up venue by prada and OMA hosted a dinner, fashion show and a variety of musical acts.

trip lighting, metal piping, and PVC sheets help define the idea of a room-within-a-room, reinforced by a gridded, suspended scaffold arranged in the space of the hypostyle hall. beneath the constructed ring, a long series of lounges host dinner guests, while above it, a catwalk runs longitudinally in rhythm with the existing architecture. the center of the space is open and oriented towards a scenographic DJ wall, defining an inner expanse for the dance floor.

the architectural organization both juxtaposes and reinforces the notion of a temporary space. the solid concrete structure of the palais d’iéna meets the thin metallic lines of the scaffolding, forming a visual and material contrast. the effect is reinforced by the use of plastic sheets that define the exterior boundaries of the room, conveying the feeling of a pop-up venue. however, in opposition to the informality of the set, a subtle sense of luxury is conjured by the white carpet upholstery of the furniture.
