conceived by moment design‘s hisaaki hirawata + tomohiro watabe, this 24 issey miyake retail store is located in hakata, japan. designed to simulate the ease of shopping within a round-the-clock convenience store, merchandise has been given visual priority by streamlining the means of display and packaging. bright colors effectively attract customers attention against a simple white background. the store is illuminated with bright white lights causing the clothes to glow creating a lively shopping atmosphere.

a sample article of clothing is hung on a wall display while compact transparent plastic spheres contain the extra clothing articles in various sizes. the vivid colored balls of clothing are piled and stored within a wire barrel in the center of the space. this technique eliminates the need to hang or fold clothing to maintain the appearance of the store and eliminates excessive storage space allowing the store to be light and airy.
