proposal by ingenhoven architects

we announced yesterday that schmidt hammer lassen architects were among the three shortlisted firms to design the new international criminal court in the hague. however we didn’t show you the designs by the other two finalists ingenhoven architects and wiel arets architects & associates who will also move into the final round of judging.

ingenhoven architects submitted a very transparent design which featured three separate buildings linked by an overhead glass canopy. their design aimed to not be overly defensive ‘security-architecture’ but rather an expression of fairness.

the proposal by wiel arets architects & associates features a long and low main structure that is dotted with four gem like towers to denote the courtrooms. these faceted peaks are accompanied by other protrusions that surround small courtyards throughout the building.
