the little black house entitled ‘la negrita’ is nestled amongst a field of trees near córdoba, argentina. morini arquitectos, with respect to the surroundings, sited the house within the property’s only clearing. the abundance of trees plays a vital role not only in the siting of the house, but in the design of the interior which opens to the natural surroundings in one direction while turning away from the street. the house, photographed by gonzalo viramonte, therefore becomes inward-looking and mysterious towards the street while at the same time outward-looking and transparent from the forest.

the initial concept was of a large black wall onto which three different components attach. the three components are organized programmatically: the living/dining area, bedroom, and garage. this programmatic fragmentation was conceived with the implication that, over time, more pieces may be added. this method ensures that even with speculative additions the language of the house will not be lost. the final result a house of transitions and of duality. the lightness of the black sheet exterior contrasts the weight of the interior concrete. the opacity of the street-facing façade further contrasts the transparency of the interior space.
