mount fuji architects studio uses CLT wood for prefab housing in japan

produced by japanese company aqura, the kiraku-no-ie houses are made almost entirely out of CLT, making a case for its high heat and sound insulating properties. mount fuji architects studio has developed the prefab constructions as an easy-to-build example of how the material can be used. ‘raw wood made in japan can be used, and the government actively encourages its use,’ explains the tokyo-based firm, ‘being an excellent material, it has rarely been used for ordinary houses due to its high cost.’

the small hut has won the g-mark japan good design award 2018 in the prefabricated housing category.
