MY ARCHISCHOOL PRESENTS THE YOUTH ARCHIDESIGN COMPETITION

As the intersection of architecture and technology continues to evolve, My Archischool launches an initiative to inspire the next generation of architects and urban planners to reimagine sustainable and collaborative learning spaces. The Youth ArchiDesign Competition invites students, aged 6-17, to design a visionary ‘School Village’ using Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools, inspiring them to explore the power of technology.

BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN EDUCATION

My Archischool is pioneering a new teaching methodology by integrating GenAI tools into the creative process, allowing students to bring their architectural dreams to life with greater clarity and depth. While GenAI generates realistic images and models based on existing data, these often lack the imaginative touch of human creativity. The Hong Kong-based architecture institute addresses this challenge by guiding students to incorporate their own 3D models, blending their ideas with GenAI’s computational power.

While some may argue that GenAI could make students less creative, My Archischool has found the opposite to be true. By using their own 3D models as starting points and blending them with AI-generated contextual elements, students can explore more design options than ever before. This enhances their creativity, allowing them to refine their visions with realistic lighting, environmental effects, and detailed contextual settings, making the creative journey more interactive and inspiring.

DESIGNING A FUTURE-READY SCHOOL WITH GENAI’S CREATIVE SUPPORT

As the fourth edition, the next Youth ArchiDesign Competition challenges participants to design a ‘School Village’ that incorporates two schools, a canteen, and a sustainable garden with farming areas. This scale encourages entrants to focus on the spatial quality of their designs. These designs must also highlight the importance of Sustainable Development Goals SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), aligning with the United Nations’ goals for a better future. The jury will also evaluate submissions based on four criteria: creativity, sustainability, creative workflow in GenAI, and presentation.

With the help of GenAI tools, students can explore various design possibilities without the constraints of traditional software, ensuring a fluid and imaginative process that merges technology with their unique artistic visions. Open to juniors (6-10 years old) and seniors (11-17 years old), submissions for the competition are accepted from December 15, 2024, to February 28, 2025.
