exhibition of sustainable urban concepts

Held at Sky 100 on 100th floor of the International Commerce Centre in Hong Kong, the My Archischool’s annual exhibition, M-XPO, celebrated the inspirational as much as imaginary ideas of the young students’ concepts of future cities. The architectural designs of 52 aspiring creatives showcased sustainable urban environments of tomorrow. Each one pinpointed key issues facing the world – and humanity – and proposed creative solutions, such as how humans and nature can coexist in urban environments. Photomontages of digital designs were accompanied by intricate physical models.

With the mission to address a range of pressing issues facing the world, the children’s concepts realized a diverse spread of project typologies. Designs were experimental, pushed possibilities and provoked new ideas in turn. Each one encourages further dialogues for the built environment, humans and nature. These proposals span from year-long research case studies of natural rooftop conversions in cities to experimental restaurants, educational centers and resorts.

publication of shall we? book by my archischool

10 student concepts of sustainable architecture are published in My Archischool’s Shall We? book, launched in time for annual exhibition. The publication prompts the pupils – and the reader – to question not what we want, but what you should do to survive in the next 20 years. The answer turns to architecture and its union of art with technology in the aim of problem-solving. The curation of concepts present a diverse array of projects on show at the exhibition.

The exhibition was the school’s first held in-person for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. M-EXPO welcomed students, parents and award judges to Sky 100, featuring extra-curriculum activities such as workshops for 3D printing and modelling of mini greenhouse designs. Referencing the theme of the concepts on display, DJ Monsta Kei of Commercial Radio in Hong Kong created a live playlist that captured the remixed harmony of urban space and nature in sound.

The young ones have shown their love for both nature and city! They designed their ideal home with the contexts of urban and the elements from nature. The sound of traffic lights, the sound of pedestrians, remixing with the sound of raindrops and birds in this unique exhibition have brought all visitors to the familiar cityscapes of Hong Kong,’ concludes the school’s founder Alice Cheung.
