architect naohiko shimoda has created a detailed miniature ‘kamidana’ shrine specifically designed for an inner corner. the ‘kamidana’, which literally means ‘god shelf’, is a miniature family altar found in many japanese houses. usually placed high on a wall, these mini floating shelves are a way to bring the shinto shrine into the home.naohiko shimoda miniature kamidana shrineall images courtesy of naohiko shimoda

upon the request of a client, naohiko shimoda constructed the miniature ‘kamidana’ particularly for an inner corner. the strikingly detailed miniature reveals all the intricate characteristics of its construction. made of wood, the mini corner shrine is a continuation of an outer corner ‘kamidana’ shimoda had created about two years ago (see more in the black & white images below).naohiko shimoda miniature kamidana shrine naohiko shimoda kamidana shrine naohiko shimoda constructs detailed miniature 'kamidana' shrine for an inner corner naohiko shimoda constructs detailed miniature 'kamidana' shrine for an inner corner naohiko shimoda constructs detailed miniature 'kamidana' shrine for an inner corner naohiko shimoda miniature kamidana shrine naohiko shimoda constructs detailed miniature 'kamidana' shrine for an inner corner kamidana naohiko shimoda constructs detailed miniature 'kamidana' shrine for an inner corner
